Historical Highlights
Tsinandali Estate
Tsinandali Estate is the cradle of classical Georgian winemaking and the
place where Georgian wine was first bottled. Historic vintages such as Saperavi 1841 and other 19th-century wines are preserved in the Princely
Oenotheque, whose collection dates back to 1814 and includes legendary wines like Tsinandali, Saperavi, Château Lafite, and Château d’Yquem.
Founded by Prince Alexander Chavchavadze, the estate continued Georgia’s 8,000-year-old winemaking tradition while introducing modern European techniques. Today, ancient kvevri and classical European methods coexist here. The estate’s unique vineyard, bordered by forests and canyons, creates an exceptional terroir planted with 11 endemic Georgian grape varieties. Every element used in production is carefully tailored to the estate.
Telavi
The historic heart of Kakheti and Georgia’s main wine region, Telavi is surrounded by ancient vineyards and framed by the majestic Caucasus
Mountains. Once the capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti, the city is deeply connected to royal history and traditional Georgian winemaking.
Today, Telavi blends centuries-old kvevri traditions with modern wineries, offering visitors a rich experience of Kakhetian culture, wine heritage, and authentic rural charm.
Ikalto Monastery (6th century)
Founded in the 6th century, Ikalto Monastery is one of Georgia’s oldest spiritual and educational centers. It once housed the renowned Ikalto Academy, where philosophy, theology, and winemaking were taught. Surrounded by vineyards and hills, the monastery reflects the deep connection between Georgian faith, knowledge, and wine culture.
Gombori Pass
The Gombori Pass offers one of the most scenic drives in eastern Georgia, connecting Kakheti with inner regions of the country. Winding through forests and mountain landscapes, the pass provides breathtaking panoramic views and a refreshing escape into nature, especially beautiful in spring and autumn.
